Vestige.

I inadvertently began working on this project in January 2024 while starting our Borderlands travel guide. The England-Scotland border is rich in history, home to significant buildings and locations that have shaped Christianity in the UK as we know it. At the time, I was unaware that embarking on the Borderlands travel guide would serve as the catalyst for finding my faith. As a lifelong atheist, I never imagined this would happen.

My goal was to visit as many churches as possible, attend numerous services, and capture the diverse environments within these churches. Throughout this journey, I encountered and photographed many beautiful, well-funded, and vast churches. However, I also witnessed the less grand side—the small, remote churches that rely entirely on retired vicars travelling long distances to conduct services for just three or four people. The stark contrast between the large, well-maintained Cathedrals and these modest churches profoundly impacted me, and I sought to reflect this in the book.
